Frequently Asked Questions
- Are UnitPlanet's calculators free to use?
- Yes. All tools on UnitPlanet are free to use for personal and commercial reference with no sign-up required.
- Who runs UnitPlanet?
- UnitPlanet is owned and operated by Enable Mastery LLC. For questions, email editorial@unitplanet.com.
- Do you store the values I type into a calculator?
- No. Calculator inputs are processed entirely in your browser. We do not send your inputs to any server, store them, or link them to you in any way.
- Where do your conversion factors come from?
- Standard unit conversions are sourced from NIST SP 811 (Guide for the Use of the International System of Units) and equivalent authoritative standards. Every tool links to its source. See the Methodology page for a category-by-category breakdown.
- Why is a US cup different from a metric cup?
- A US customary cup is 236.588 ml. An Australian metric cup is 250 ml; a Canadian metric cup is also 250 ml. These are defined differently by each country's standards body. UnitPlanet documents which definition each tool uses — typically the US cup for American recipes and the metric cup for recipes from other English-speaking countries.
- How accurate are the results?
- Conversion calculations are performed at full floating-point precision using factors sourced from authoritative standards. Displayed results are rounded for readability. For critical applications — laboratory work, legal documents, engineering — always verify against the primary source and consult a professional.
- Do you have an API or downloadable data?
- Not currently. There is no public API or data download at this time.
- How do I report an error?
- Email editorial@unitplanet.com with the tool URL and a description of the issue. We investigate every report and publish a correction notice if the issue is confirmed.
- Why do you run ads?
- Advertising covers the cost of hosting, research, and editorial review that keeps the tools accurate and up to date. We keep ads minimal — they never block the calculator or interrupt your work. See the About page for more on our approach to advertising.
